Establishing Yourself In Righteousness: part 2

Establishing Yourself In Righteousness: part 2

Sin Consciousness
If you are do not become righteous minded you remain with a sin consciousness and filter the reading of scripture through this particular mindset.  We know we have been delivered out of the kingdom of darkness into the kingdom of His beloved Son. Col. 1:12-13, but have no idea what this entails or how to act in it.
Heb 10:1  ‘For the Law, since it has only a shadow of the good things to come and not the very form of things, can never, by the same sacrifices which they offer continually year by year, make perfect those who draw near.’  Under the Levitical law an animal must be offered every twelve months to atone for the sins (unfaithfulness towards the covenant) of the people.  The word atonement means to cover.  This word is never used in the New Testament when it refers to Jesus sacrifice.   The blood of Jesus did not cover sin, it remitted it, it did away with sin-nature altogether.  With this in mind read verse two: ‘Otherwise, would they not have ceased to be offered, because the worshipers, having once been cleansed, would no longer have had consciousness of sins?’
If the blood of bulls and goats had cleansed them from sin, they would have had no more consciousness of sin, or sin consciousness.

Sin consciousness produces:
defeat.  It keeps your mind in captivity.  It says you are not like other people who are doing things for God, you can’t do this or that….who do you think you are anyway.
false sense of humility.  Sin consciousness attempts to be humble by defrauding itself and pushing itself back.  Jesus did not tell us to be ‘door mats.’  If you were to ask most Christians ‘are you righteous?’ they would say; ‘Me? No!’  They are trying to be humble.  True humility is to be teachable, to believe and accept what God says about you, not what you feel or what you’ve been trained to think from ignorance of the Word of God concerning righteousness.
It robs.  Sin consciousness robs you of the blessings of the covenant, It keeps you in fear and where there is fear faith cannot operate.  Like Gideon it keeps you tilling your little patch of ground, who out of fear threshed his wheat in a wine press,  and you wonder why no-one comes to help you, why no-one is concerned about the things your are concerned about.  Why church doesn’t meet your need,

Develop Righteousness Consciousness.
Developing a righteousness consciousness is the main goal of every believer after you are born again.  Satan will seek to distract you into all sorts of other avenues so that you never renew you mind in this area. Once you know who you are, Satan is totally defeated in your life.  It does not mean temptation will not come to rob you of this fact and the consequential blessings.  Jesus knew who he was a righteous man, that is why he was able to say about Satan; ‘he has nothing in me.’ Jn 14:30.
1. Find all the scriptures in the NT dealing with righteousness, write them out in first person singular, meditate in them and confess them out.
Heb 4:14  ‘Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin. Therefore let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.’   Help for what… stand on our righteousness when temptation comes to back down.

Become skillful in the Word of Righteousness.   Begin to act as the righteousness of God.
Sin consciousness is always looking for a way OUT.  I might not have enough money to go, I might no be able to get time off work, etc. Sin consciousness easily gets upset and moans and groans.  It thinks and expresses what ought to be done in church, but waits for others to do it.
Righteousness Consciousness is always looking for a way IN.   It sees what God is doing and wants to be involved regardless of whether I its exactly what you want to do or be involved in, I seeks what God is doing I this season and wants to get involved.  This is what Jesus said to his disciples… first the KofG and His way of being and doing right and all these things will be added to you.
Righteousness is received by faith……..James 2:20 said ‘faith without corresponding actions is dead.’
As a believer you have complete and total access to the ministry of Jesus, you have total access to the ministry of the Holy Spirit.  To receive from Him all you have to do is go to His Word, find out what your rights and privileges are as a child of God and begin to believe them. You have the same rights Jesus had.
Righteousness is the driving force behind our faith.  Once you begin to walk in this revelation, then nothing will be impossible to ‘him who believes.’
Paul speaks plainly to the Corinthian church: 1Cor 5: 34….  ‘awake to righteousness and sin not for some have no knowledge of God. I speak this to your shame.’
When righteousness mindedness takes over, sin is no longer so an issue.
Awake to righteousness and you will put yourself in a much better position to be used by God as you have developed the same mind that was in Christ.
