4 Cornerstones of Thought

4 Cornerstones of Thought

‘Building up one another in love’

Just as cornerstones set the parameters of a building. Jesus being the chief Cornerstone sets the parameters of His family. Mum and Dad set the parameters of their family.  How the children in both families mature and whatever they may accomplish in life will be shaped by the extents set by the parents.

However we are God’s family. “being built together in Christ..in whom every family in heaven and earth are named (find their identity).” Eph 3:14,15.

What is the goal of Jesus’s family?

What was the intension of God in creating mankind in the first place?

Paul sums up God’s purpose in this amazing statement…..” that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our mortal flesh.  2Cor.4:11  That each member of His family reflects the family likeness & image of the Father. The ‘word’ made flesh in us. After all that is what a living epistle is!

How does this happen?  By discovering that we are already his image and likeness. We can do nothing to become it, but rest in the truth of that is who we are as we continually “discover” the truth.

Son’s and daughters do not have to try to become son’s and daughters, what parents do is to help their children discover who they, what their gifting maybe and provide a secure, wholesome environment for them to blossom.

The four Cornerstones

  1. God is Good
  2. Nothing is impossible with God
  3. All was won at the cross
  4. You are valuable

Just as if builders stray outside of the parameters set by the cornerstones a building will become unsafe, so by straying outside these parameters of thinking we can get into trouble.  These parameters set a safe territory for the family of God to live and grow in.

When I start wondering outside the territory set by these parameters is when I start entertaining thoughts contrary to Gods heart for me, the way He thinks of me and the way He had committed Himself to me. I cannot afford to have a thought in my head that He doesn’t have in His head about me.

Anytime I allow or entertain a thought that goes against what He believes to be true about me, then I am visiting something that will war against what He thinks about me.

“The mind set on the flesh is at war with God.”

These are the Four Cornerstones with a brief overview.

  1. God is Good.

Naham.1:7  The Lord is good, a strength and stronghold in the day of trouble, He knows those who take refuge and trust in Him.

Psalm. 27   I would have fainted, unless I had believed to see the goodness of the              Lord in the land of the living.

  • God’s goodness is the basis of all theology
  • God could not be good and tolerate sin
  • His holiness comes out of His goodness
  • All He created was good
  • It is impossible to exagerate His goodness, but it is possible to dilute, pervert it….
  • God’s goodness maybe one of the areas of greatest contest
  • The goodness of God leads us to change our thinking with regard to what He thinks about us. Rom. 2:4.
  • The greatest evidence of God’s goodness is on the countenance of people who are in love with Him and who love who He loves.
  • own family experience: always calling our kids good!  Eph. 4:29
  • The Bible says God is good, but peoples definition of His goodness varies.

The problem occurs when we begin to consider His goodness compared to what is going on in the world around us and in our own lives.

God’s goodness cannot be judged on the basis of our senses. It is a matter of faith. Just as the corner of a building cannot be judged vertical by our eyes alone…it needs a plumb-line.

God’s goodness is our plumb-line with which to consider Him and the world around us and my own soul.

In using this plum line in your thinking you will have to put a lot of what you though about God on the shelf, while you gain fresh perspectives from the Holy Spirit.

Coming to believe God is absolute goodness and love are the two foundations upon which trusting God is built.

  1. Nothing is impossible with God. Lk.1:37
  • All God created is finite, only He is infinite.
  • God is the only one who exists in the realm of the infinite, everything else has limits.
  • He wants the finite part of you to experience the infinite
  • We cannot put limits on God in our thinking, else He is not God for us.
  • Mary ( Jesus’ mother) submitted to the impossible.
  • Lk.1:27 No thing (no individual or collective rhema from God) is impossible.
  • God’s Post Script….’to those who believe.’ (receive His rhema word, like Mary.)

When we consider this aspect of God’s being my immediate thought is; why doesn’t God intervene more in my life, those around me who I love and sort the world out!

Why then doesn’t he come in His power to zap this issue or that issue…..just sort things out? Why doesn’t He stop a lot of the horror going on in the world especially when it touches me individually.

William Young writes: ‘He doesn’t stop a lot of things that cause Him pain. This world is severely broken. Man demands independence and then gets angry with The One who loved us enough to give it to us. Nothing is as it should be or as God desired it to be, as it will one day. Right now this world is lost in darkness and chaos, and horrible things happen to those people He is especially fond of.’

Yet we know He does intervene: we call them miracles…….and He does a lot more that we are totally unaware of.  However the question still remains….

..why doesn’t He do something about it?

The answer is that He already has……

This brings me to point :3

3. All was accomplished at the Cross.

-at the in Christ God redeemed His identity in mankind

-He reconciled all men to Himself not counting their sin against them

-healing was accomplished at the cross

-I died in Christ, I was buried with Him and I have been raised up with Him.

-I am one with Him. All distance and delay was cancelled at the cross.

-my innocence has been restored and I am blameless, righteous, in perfect union with Him.

For love He chose the way of the cross.

Mercy rejoices over judgement.

It’s not God will that any should perish…Perish. Gk.‘apollume’  from apo: separate and ollumi: ruin, loss.

God never needs or uses evil to accomplish His good purposes.

It is we humans who have embraced evil, when we declared our independence.

Evil is cloaked in the darkness in which all mankind sits…

Isaiah. Lk.1:79/Mt.4:16. ‘The people who sat in darkness have seen a great light, And upon those who sat in the region and shadow of death Light has dawned.’

God has responded with goodness.

The cross is the strategy of the Trinity to to enter into mankind’s internal darkness and bring light….

[2Co 4:6 KJV] 6 For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to [give] the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

The light source is founded in the same God who said: “Light Be!” and light shone out of darkness! He lit the lamp in our understanding so that we may clearly recognise the features of His likeness in the face of Jesus Christ reflected within us. Mirror Bible

The sacrificial system of the Israelites ordained by God, brought some kind of light in that the people received forgiveness for that moment. Like an MOT it’s only valid for the moment the car receives inspection. It dealt with the web of people’s sins, the lies and deceit etc….but it never removed the spiders.

The death Jesus died in which you were included….’once for all mankind.’ Dealt with the web and the spiders.

  1. You are valuable
  • understanding that we are valuable to God provides inestimable security.
  • there is nothing we can do to increase or decrease our value in His eyes.
  • we are valuable because we belong to Him, we came out from Him, from the love circle of the Trinity, we had our beginning In Him.
  • we were only lost because we once belonged.
  • because he invested Himself in you when he made you.
  • He designed you for Himself to come and live in.
  • He paid the highest price to get his family back.

A person who truly loves another truly values them beyond anything or anyone else.

When the one loved stands in the light of the love emanating from the lover – all sense of being unloved, rejected, alone, isolated, and the related consequences, has to be driven out.

God can do nothing else but love you.

He is love

You are His most treasured possession

You did not begin with your parents, you began in Him in the womb of love shared by the Trinity.

You belonged to Him before you were lost in Adam.

It is vitally important you believe what God your lover believes to be true about you, rather than to believe what you think about yourself….

1Cor.11:27  So whoever does not value the meaning of the bread and the wine, keeps himself in condemnation.

28.To see oneself associated in Christ’s death and declared innocent in his blood is the only worthy manner in which to examine one’s own life in the context of the new covenant meal.

v29 Anyone who partakes of this meal in an indifferent manner, either because of religious sentiment or merely being blasé about the meaning of the meal, eats and drinks judgment upon himself! The human body of Jesus represents the judgment of every single human life; to fail to acknowledge this is to deliberately exclude yourself from the blessing of the new covenant.

v30 This is the reason why many of you are suffering unnecessarily with weaknesses and illnesses, and many have already died.

v31 By judging that we indeed co-died in his death we are free from any other kind of judgment!

(Mirror Bible.)

“Examine yourselves to see whether you are holding to your faith, test yourselves, do you not realize that Jesus Christ is within you!” [2 Cor 13:5 — RSV])

God is Good.

Nothing is impossible to Him

All was accomplished at the cross

You are valuable

You cannot afford to have a thought in your mind about yourself that God does not have in His about you.

Finally, if each individual members of His family kept these cornerstones in mind and built upon them, then the whole building (Church) would express as a whole ‘Love,‘ ‘Share,‘ ‘Together’ and ‘Change.’
